Captain Charles “Chuckie” Ebanks

Captain Charles “Chuckie” Ebanks

President, Cayman National Watersports Association

Born in West Bay, Grand Cayman to a family of ‘old salts’ (seamen), Captain Charles ‘Chuckie’ Ebanks has been involved in the Cayman Islands tourism industry for most of his career. Years ago he perfected the art of custom-building fishing rods, which eventually led him into the watersports business. Since the mid-1980s, Capt. ‘Chuckie’ has owned and operated a watersports company, Black Princess Cruises, specializing in fishing and snorkelling.

Operations Manager, Red Sail Sports

Born in South Australia, Rod was a high school teacher who turned to the underwater world for his career choice. He moved to the Cayman Islands in 1982 as a dive instructor and managed Surfside Watersports for three years before becoming Operations Manager of Red Sail Sports in 1987. He has been the President of the Cayman Islands Watersports Operations Association, President of the Cayman Islands Tourism Association and sat on this Board and many Government Committees related to diving and tourism. Operations Manager for Red Sail Sports for 29 years, and has been a board member of the ISDHF since its inception.


Tom Ingram

Tom Ingram

Executive Director of DEMA

Over 38 years working in diving education and marketing, currently serving as Executive Director of the Diving Equipment and Marketing Association. First employed in the diving industry in the 1970’s and later became the Department Head for diving programs at Florida Institute of Technology & Barry University. Ingram developed, implemented and ran the first four-year degree program directly connected to the recreational diving industry. He holds Masters degrees in Marketing & Management & served as Chair of the Board for the California Society of Association Executives, lecturer for the Professional Convention Management Association and author of numerous articles on diving, marketing, & management.


Leslie Leaney

Leslie Leaney

Founder of The Journal of Diving History, CO – Founder Historical Diving Society U.S.A.

A diver since 1969, Leslie was a diving officer for BSAC Special Branch in Singapore, and had held numerous positions with diving related non-profit groups. His research into diving history has been translated and published in numerous countries where he has also lectured. As a consultant, Leslie has worked for the National Geographic Society, the B.B.C., the US Navy, the History Channel and other companies. Non-profit fund raising programs introduced and overseen by Leslie have raised over a million dollars and he has contributed thousands of volunteer hours to diving non-profit causes. Leslie is the North American representative of pioneer divers Hans and Lotte Hass, is the recipient of numerous awards and, by the personal sponsorship of Dr. Christian Lambertsen, is a Lifetime Member of the UDT/SEAL Association.


Keith E. Sahm

General Manager Sunset House, Grand Cayman

In 1996, Keith moved to Grand Cayman and has managed Sunset House, Cayman’s longest established dive resort. Co-Founder of ‘Total Submersion’ a PADI Diving Society event, which was the brainchild of Keith and the late Paul Tzimoulis. Keith has also been on the DEMA Board of Directors for six years (2006-2012) and for the past two years sits as Watersports sector director for the Cayman Islands Tourism Association.

Keith and his wife Karin live on property at Sunset House, a leading example of a successful dive resort.


**By virtue of their position on the Board, all members have a vested interest in the scuba diving community, but several serve on the Board as ex officio members, as a result of their appointment to positions within the Cayman Islands diving industry. These positions are; the Cayman Islands Minister of Tourism; President, Cayman Islands National Watersports Association; and President, Cayman Islands Watersports Operators Association. Adding to the scope of the Board, the President of the Diving Equipment and Marketing Association, the international trade association for the diving industry, also serves on the Board in an ex officio capacity. Ex Officio members serve for a time that coincides with their term to their appointed position.
